Perigord - Dordogne
This city with 7 church towers has a magnificent panorama over the region of Périgord noir.
It was fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategic position and came to be known as the "Pope’s city" as it was under Clement V’s protection. Belvès bears witness to a tormented past: walls and the auditeur’s tower (11th c); the belfry (15th c) the city hall tower, the castle (14th/15th), the hotel with a Renaissance façade and troglodyte dwellings.
