Talmont-sur-Gironde
Western France
Against the stream of the Gironde, the peninsula of Talmont rises above the water, crowned with its church.
The village is a former bastide (walled town) created in 1284 by Edward 1st of England. On the northern bank of Europe’s biggest estuary and its appearance has hardly changed since then. Behind the walls, 17th and 18th houses surround the harbour. There is a local history and fishing museum.
