Saint-Germain des Pres and Quartier Latin

The Latin Quartier, the Sorbonne University, the Pantheon and Saint-Germain-des-Pres are many worldwide known names which contribute to Paris' reputation. With its student population and intellectual setting, this is a very pleasant area where the mood is really different.

The academic center of Paris, home to many institutions of excellence and the Sorbonne University - where medieval scholars taught in Latin- hence the name, and the Saint-Michel busy area boast a great number of street-side cafés, bookstores and moderately price shops.

Clothes and books of all kind will attract you before arriving at Saint-Michel Fountain. It's a very well known meeting point for Parisian people during the day as well as night.

While the Luxembourg gardens are an ideal place to rest awhile the Saint-Germain Boulevard is where you'll find designer clothes and antique stores.

Don't miss the Pantheon. This is a very impressive monument On its pediment, "To the Great Men, The Recognition of the Country" is written. The Pantheon, designed by Soufflot is a republican symbol. In its crypt, the greatest scientist, writers and politicians have their grave. It's very emotional.

Not very far from here, Saint-Germain-Des-Pres is the intellectual place of Paris. Many book publishers and bookstores are found in this area, where in the 50's Jean Paul Sartre and Boris Vian, as well as famous jazzmen, gathered at night. "Les Deux Magots" the existentialist café, was their meeting point. It's still a very chic and trendy place to be.

Saint-Sulpice Square with the fountain in the middle and its two tower church, is a converging point of many walks and streets. Nearby, Odeon's Square is full of activities on Friday and Saturday evenings due to the numerous cinemas all around.

While strolling down to the Seine river, you'll reach the French Academy dome. L'Académie Française (the French Academy) is where great French literary personalities establish the French Dictionary.

You'll also find many antique shops, which sell all kind of ancient things.
