Let's
discover the diversity of French vineyards:
Wine
production is an ancestral tradition,
which goes back to Antiquity. During Antiquity, wine was
considered as a gift of gods: Osiris for Egyptians and Dionysus
for Greeks.
Why
French wines are the best in the World? The temperate
climate gives the country the possibility to
grow vine almost everywhere. For more than two thousands
years, the most precious soils are known, itemized and run.
The diversity of climatic context and the multiplicity of
microclimates linked to the diversity of landscapes allows
to have a great variety of white and red wines. French people
have one all-encompassing word which is "Terroir".
Terroirs are intimately linked with A.O.C.
(Appelation d'Origine Controlée), which represent a quality
and authenticity label.
Red
or white wine? The
color of wine depends on the way fermentation is done: the
red wine is made by fermenting the juice and their skins,
Rosé is made by fermenting the juice of red grapes with
their skins for a short time only and the white wine is
made by fermenting the juice without the skins. For each
color of wine (apart from rosé), there are specific grapes:
Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Muscadet, Riesling, Sauvignon,
are some of the grapes used for white wine; Cabernet, Merlot,
Gamay, Syrah, Grenache are some of the grapes used for red
white. Each grape can be married to others to create an
original wine.
In
fact, wine-making is a science that French people master
perfectly. France is The country of wines. Discover
wine is a good way, maybe the best, to
discover French culture. The wine and the vines
cultivation are an integral part of French culture.
Wine
history and French history are intimately linked. French
landscapes are shaped by vineyards. French people considered
that drinking wine is civilizing, festive, refined act,
which has to be associated with the pleasure of palate,
that is to say gastronomy. Each region as specific wines
in harmony with local dishes, which make the pride and joy
of its inhabitants.
