ComeToFrance
proposes to dive into the gastronomy
of Perigord with fine wines,
foie gras, walnuts, truffles,
strawberries and cheeses. But not in addition to this
gastronomic patrimony, Perigord
is a region with an unbeatable historic patrimony.
Located
on the left bank of the river Vezere, Lascaux
is set a little apart from the traditional prehistoric
sites further downstream, between Moustier and Bugue.
The excellent state of conservation of this prehistoric
heritage is due to the numerous rock-shelters and natural
caves in limestone, which dot the landscape.
You
will of course in Sarlat
to discover a UNESCO Site and you will then join many
of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, which gather
in Perigord and Dordogne:
La Roque Gageac with its wonderful cliff, Limeuil
between Vezere and Dordogne rivers, Saint
Leon sur Vezere, Domme
and its panorama over the Dordogne, Belves,
Monpazier
and Monflanquin
with their typical "Bastides". South, you
will join Auvillar
, Lauzerte
and Pujols
le Haut.
In
Beynac
et Cazenac, overlooking the Dordogne
Valley from a 300-foot sheer cliff, the Beynac-et-Cazenac
fortress is a fine medieval prize, once the proud possession
of Richard the Lion Hearted. Work inward through the
elaborate series of curtain walls, parapet walks, watchtowers
and passageways to a wonderful interior with a superb
17th-century staircase and delicate 15th-century frescoes.
