Historically,
the French Riviera was settled by the Roman who had leaved
great vestiges especially in Frejus where an amphitheatre
built outside the town in the 2nd century AD are to be seen.
One
of the main tourist appeal of the French
Riviera is the luxury of towns founded in faboulous
landscapes. Nice
and its "Promenade des Anglais", Cannes
and its international film festival, Saint
Tropez and its jet-set society staying in great yachts,
Monte-Carlo and
its Casinos. All these towns are swarming with luxury hotels,
shops and casinos with an architectural luxuriance.
Nevertheless, let's not forget the beauty of the turquoise
Mediterranean breathtakingly
steep cliffs or sandy beaches.
The
hinterland is also fabulous. Some of the most beautiful
villages of France such as Coaraze,
Gourdon, Gassin
, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
, Seillan , Tourtour,
and Sainte Agnes are very
close, enjoy short breaks there, away from the hustle and
bustle of the French Riviera. Small cities as Grasse,
the perfume capital are also very close.
Last
but not least, the French Riviera is a land of culture.
Traditional
cultures with Nice carnival,
Menton's lime festival and still great vineyards. Artistic
culture with vivid villages as St Paul de Vence where you
can visit Maeght Foundation
and admire masterpieces of Chagall, Kandinski, Miro and
Matisse who lived there.
