Le Clément V could easily be mistaken for one of those village houses which choose to protect their charms behind an unassuming front. Inside, however, you will discover XIth century vaulted cellars and exposed rafters in the attic bedrooms; you will sit by the log fire of the sitting room or have tea by the conservatory's lemon trees. With its nooks and crannies, and its twists and turns, the Clément V Hotel retains the feeling of a true family home.
It was fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategic position and came to be known as the "Pope’s city" as it was under Clement V’s protection. Belvès bears witness to a tormented past: walls and the auditeur’s tower (11th c); the belfry (15th c) the city hall tower, the castle (14th/15th), the hotel with a Renaissance façade and troglodyte dwellings.
