Carennac
Center
Just opposite the Calypso Island on the river Dordogne, Carennac offers a wide range of Renaissance houses with carved windows.
Carennac was called Carendenacus in Roman times, it was a village built around a church that depended on the abbey of Beaulieu. The église St Pierre was built as early as the 11th c in the roman style. The inside of the church displays a semi-gothic and semi-roman cloister, an hexagonal tower and a 16 th c passion of Christ.
