Belcastel
Center
Belcastel is a fortified place on the ancient salt road, by the banks of the Aveyron River.
The river’s banks group the houses at the castle’s foot. The castle was a ruin in the 19th and was recently restored. The village below is worth visiting for its paved alleys, its oven, its blacksmith’s shops and its fountain. The church’s founder, Alzias de Saunhac, rests there. He commanded the stone bridge to be built: travellers were asked to pay for their fare in prayers and offerings. 2 steps away from the village is the 8th c. fortified site of Roc d’Anglars.
