Under Louis 13th and Louis 14th’s reigns, so as to defend themselves from gangs of highwaymen, the villagers of Parfondeval built a fortified church around which they erected squat houses used as fortification. To get to the church, one has to pass a gate inside a house and between 2 round towers.
