What to discover?

One of the major asset of Avignon is its geographic localization. Les Baux de Provence are just a stone throw away on the west side, and le Luberon with the Most Beautiful Villages of France such as Gordes, Menerbes, Roussillon, Lourmarin, Venasque and Ansouis, are only 20 minutes driving away from Avignon. North, Seguret is also one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, which will introduce you to Cote du Rhone wines and a beautiful patrimony also, as always in the Most Beautiful Villages of France.

The major monument is incontestably the Popes' palace which used to be the capital of the Christian world in the 14th century. This monument is one of the most perfect example of gothic architecture. It is often said that is the biggest and most beautiful gothic palace in the world. The visit shows numerous rooms: courtyard, private papal apartments, cloisters. It is ranked by U.N.E.S.C.O. as Heritage for humanity.

Another famous monument is Avignon's bridge, which is officially named Saint Benezet bridge. It was built in the 12th century and was often damaged by raging flood waters. Moreover, the old town is surrounded with impressive medieval fortifications.

However, Avignon is not simply an historical and architectural jewel; it is also a living city, full of restaurants, cafés and bars. Avignon has a quiet pleasant pedestrian area with luxury shops, regional products, Provencal arts and crafts. You can stroll on the Place des Carmes or on the Place Crillon, where lively markets take place weekly. You can also discover the town by its river, the Rhone by boarding on a fluvial cruise. Finally, Avignon is the center of historical Provence. Firstly, there are famous and great vineyards all around the town such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. These vineyards can be visited for their beauty and for wine-testing sessions.

Moreover, Avignon is surrounded by majestic mountains: Mont Ventoux and les Dentelles de Montmirail.
