Located in the south-west of France, Lourdes was just a small market town in XIX century in the heart of the Pyrenees.
What to discover?
In 1858, Lourdes' fate changed, Bernadette Soubirous saw “the lady” who later identified herself as the Blessed Virgin Mary. Afterwards, she appeared 17 times to Bernadette Soubirous. Nowadays, the city welcomes more than 5 million pilgrims each year. Spirituality is everywhere in the city, even the atheist will not stay indifferent to this spiritual atmosphere. You may enjoy the religious buildings such as the Basilica of the Rosary, the Underground Basilica of St. Pius X and the Upper Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Its ideal geographical position, close to the mountains and the thermal springs makes it a privileged starting point to visit the surroundings: the Pyrenees National Park, the grand glacier cirques, the main Pyrenean passes, the pic du midi de Bigorre, etc.
