Perpignan
Perpignan is the capital of the department of Pyrénées-Orientales. The city is turned towards the beach, the mountains and Spain.
What to discover?
Founded in the 10th century, Perpignan was the fortified capital of the Spanish kingdom of Roussillon .The Spanish influence is present in the architecture. From this heritage, you will see the Loge (14th cent.), built to house the merchants' exchange; the Gothic Cathedral of St. Jean (14th-15th cent.); and the castle of the kings of Majorca (13th-15th cent.), medieval palace, part of the old citadel dominating the city. In summer, theatrical productions are staged in the palace’s main courtyard.
Perpignan is a lively and historic city with many things to do and see. All year long, the city hosts many events such as the Sacred Music Festival (during Holy Week), the Procession of the Sanch, « Sant Jordi », Roussillon wine Fair, Medieval market. Do not wait any further to come to Perpignan !
The city is an excellent base from which to explore the eastern end of the Pyrenees and the Cathar castles of the Corbières. Not far from Perpignan, you may also discover some of the Most Beautiful Villages in France such as Castelnou, Eus, Mosset, Evol, Villefranche-de-Conflent.
