What to discover?

Carcassonne is located in the South of France, in the region Languedoc Rousillon. The town is divided in two distincts parts: the medieval city on the right bank and the Bastide Saint Louis on the left bank.

The city inherited of 2000 years of history. Listed as part of UNESCO’s World Heritage, Carcasonne is famous worldwide for its medi eva l city and Canal du Midi. The city is also the only fortified medi eval town of Europe still inhabited.

Laid on a butte, the medieval town overlooks the Minervois and Carcassès fields. The Narbonnaise and Aude doors invite you to discover this jewel. Your stroll in the small and narrow streets of the town will lead you to discover the castle, mix of roman and royal style, the fortified walls, Saint Nazaire Basilica and the theatre. Carcassonne has also three kilometres of fortifications; great testimony about two thousand years of history and military architecture.

 The Roman Catholic Church was during centuries owner of places, you will thus find many churches, chapels and other religious buildings.

 Less famous but no the least interesting, the Bastide Saint Louis also hides many treasures. The Bastide is built in a chessboard style around a central square: la place Carnot. You will be charmed by its private hotels, religious monuments, small squares and gardens…

Before leaving the city, do not forget to have lunch or dinner in one of the numerous restaurants. Do not miss the famous cassoulet, a local speciality.
