La Flotte-en-Ré

Poitou-Charentes

Bathing in ocean light, La Flotte-en-Ré is centred around its harbour.

Now a peninsula at the end of a bridge with the continent, Ré hasn’t lost the magic of its ocean light, changing with the tides, the sweetness of its landscapes, the gardens and oyster parks. The low houses are painted a vivid white and have green and blue shutters. In a protected natural habitat, la Flotte keeps the remains of the 12th abbaie des Chateliers, the La Prée fort built in the 18th against the English and Protestant invasions from La Rochelle. The picturesque tourism and fishing harbour is busy all year round. Despite the bridge, Ré hasn’t been changed by the continent.
